Symphonic Band

When – Wednesday

Time – Show up at the band hall for first period then we will load up shortly and get on the bus to go. 10:00 a.m. is warm up time and performance is at 10:30 a.m.

Where – Canton High School Auditorium

Attire – Band Polo and BLUE jeans

Symphonic Band will be back around B lunch.

Honor Band

When – Thursday

Time – Show up to the Junior High Band Hall at 7:15 a.m. We will load up as soon as possible and take off. EAT BREAKFAST BEFORE YOU GET TO THE BAND HALL. You will not have time to eat once you get to the band hall. We warm up on stage at 9 a.m. and performance is at 9:30 a.m.

Where – Canton High School Auditorium

Attire – Band Polo and BLUE jeans

Honor Band will be back by A lunch.

Pre-UIL Contest Friday March 31st

Junior High Symphonic Band and Honor Band will have contest this Friday (March 31st). Symphonic and Honor band need to arrive at the Junior High Band Hall at 7:30 a.m. We will quickly load the trailer with instruments and head over to the High School. Please eat breakfast BEFORE you get to school because you will not have time to eat breakfast at the school.

Symphonic Band  performs at 8:20 a.m. and Honor Band performs at 8:45 a.m.

Performance will take place at the High School auditorium and it is a complete contest just like UIL contest will be next week. Parents are welcomed to sit in audience.

Students must wear band polo and BLUE jeans on Friday. After the performance, we will pack up and head back to the junior high and have a regular day the rest of the day.

All-Region students and invited guests for the Dallas Winds Concert tomorrow March 7th.

Those that made the all-region band and their invited guests will be traveling to see the Dallas Wind Symphony on the evening of March the 7th.  Students will need to dress as formal as they can-nice dress clothes.  Students can bring those clothes to school and change at the end of school if they wish or just come to school dressed up looking sharp for the day.  We will load up at the high school band hall right after school (I will get kids that have theatre practice after they are done).  They will need to bring money for dinner.  We typically go to El Fenix in Downtown Dallas.  Usually around 10-15 dollars…a 20 would be sufficient.  The concert ticket is already paid for by the region organizers.  We would plan to be back around the 11:00pm-12:00pm hour.  We’ll post arrival estimate on remind.  Please don’t hesitate to contact a director if you have questions.

High School UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest March 1st

UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest will be held in Canton on Wednesday March 1st for both high school bands.

Symphonic Band info

Need to come dressed in appropriate dress clothes for the contest.  Students have made the choice to either bring their own lunch or receive a sack lunch from the cafeteria.  They will be dismissed at 3rd Period to load up and travel to Canton. Performance is at 12:00 and sight reading at 12:30.  They will arrive back to the high school around 1:30 where they will eat their lunch and return to class.

Honor Band info

Come to school dressed like a normal school day.  They will be dismissed from class around 2:00pm to come change into their concert black uniform and rehearse before heading to Canton.  Performance is at 5:00 and sight reading at 5:30.  They will arrive back to the high school around 6:30pm.

KHS Students, Parents, and Community,

 

Due to increases in traffic for dropping off and picking up students at KHS, we will be initiating the following procedures to insure student safety:

 

  1. Students will only be dropped off and picked up in the “loading/unloading zone” of the front entrance of the KHS campus.  This allows students to be under the cover of the porch and safely wait for their ride to pull up.
  2. Students who walk to and from school and who live in the township of Kemp can ride bus 9 to and from KHS in the mornings and afternoons.  This bus shuttles from the Kemp Intermediate School to Kemp High School in the morning and from Kemp High School to Kemp Intermediate School each afternoon.  Check with the KISD Transportation Department for arrival and departure times.
  3. Walkers from KHS in the afternoon will not be allowed to leave campus and cross 274 (always via the crosswalk) until the traffic has cleared each afternoon.  This will be at least 3:50 but could be as late as 4:00.  On good weather days these students may wait on the front porch of KHS.  On bad weather days they may remain seated in the cafeteria until given the “all clear” to use the crosswalk on 274.

 

As we work through this new process we ask that you help us reinforce these rules and guidelines with your child.  Our number one concern is for their safety.  If they fail to follow these guidelines discipline consequences will follow.

 

We will continue to work on additional ways to make the traffic entrance and exit as smooth as possible for our students and our parents.  Be patient with us and with each other as you sit in your vehicle and wait to drop off/pick up your child.  Together we can assure our students, your children, are kept safe.

Solo and Ensemble results from Saturday

55 Kemp High School Band Students competed in the Region 3 Solo and Ensemble Competition this past Saturday at Mesquite High School.  Student seither performed an individual solo or was a member of a small group of similar instruments.  Some competed in both categories as well.
The students perform their music for one judge who then gives that performance a rating.  The rating score ranges from Division 1, which is the highest score you can achieve, down through Division 5.  Each solo or ensemble is classified into 3 groups.  Class 1 is the most difficult, Class 2 is of a medium range and Class 3 is on an easier level.

High School Solo and Ensemble Contest this Saturday Feb. 4th

SOLO AND ENSEMBLE   SATURDAY FEB. 4TH

 

We will be meeting at the high school band hall at 6:00am this Saturday for Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Please be on time and make sure you have had breakfast.

Student need to be dressed in appropriate contest performance clothing and must follow the dress code.  Nice dress/blouse/dress pants for the ladies.  Slacks/dress pants/button down or polo shirt for the guys.

We will be at Old Mesquite High School like usual.

Performances start promptly at 8:00am and run through the 10:00am hour.  We also have a few ensembles that are at 1:00pm.  Hopefully, all scores will be in our hands by 2-3:00pm and we would be home around 3-4:00ish.  If there is any change, we will send out a Remind Text.

Parents may check out their children if they have finished with their performances if they wish.  They must check out in person with their child face to face with a director.

There will be concessions at the contest site.  I would urge the students to have enough money for snacks and lunch as this can be a long day.

Students may bring a change of clothes for after their performance.  Again, it must be dress code.

Area Auditions

Updated times…

For those going to area auditions…we will be meeting at the band hall at 8:30am to load up to head to Argyle High School this Saturday the 7th.  You need to bring food money for the day…concession stand while we are there and enough for a nice meal after we are done.  We will be back around the early evening depending on how quickly tryouts go.

Road conditions will be monitored
